In 1784, there was a great famine in the Awadh region, it was when the people of the province, asaf-us Dhola, decided to include all the people in the construction of this building.
Both the construction and the famine of this Imambara lasted for 11 years and similarly the employment scheme was made that 20,000 people were believed to be involved in making this monument.The central hall of it is said to be the largest vaulted chamber in the world.Bada Imambara is an architectural wonder.
The biggest attraction of Bada Imambara is the infamous maze. 1024 ways to get in and only 2 to come out. This maze is located at the top of Imambara with its many, serpentine luggage stairs, corridors and gates, which open from the balcony on the roof. Is called the beam-less structure support system
The complex has Asafi Mosque to the west of the Bada Imambara.This building is dedicated as the mausoleum of Nawab Asaf-ud-Dhola and is a symbol of Mughal architecture with no western influence.
